insurance

Post by MColes »

Hi guys wondering if you could help me out.

I'm 19 years old and just passed my test and would really like a moggy but the insurance is ridiculous. The cheapest quote I’ve got so far is £1,942.55 and being a poor, poor student could never afford it.

Just wondering who you guys are with so I can get a quote from them and see if there’s any chance I’ll ever get a moggy.

I found similarly stupid numbers on price comparison websites. Then, courtesy of the club, Aon sorted me for £450-odd, unlimited mileage, no other vehicle and that includes saving of about £200 because of spending £20 to become an MMOC member! That's as a completely new driver at 22, so should be comparable.

It's less if you're named driver on another vehicle as it can be a "proper" collector's policy, even if you drive the same number of miles - as a main vehicle, you can't limit the miles (even though I did only 5,000 last year and will probably do fewer this...). When I renewed this year, FootmanJames or RH (I forget which) gave me a _very_ competitive quote, but based on some false criteria, and before I could 'phone them to put them right I was hospitalised. Since getting out, I just haven't gotten around to it... [adds to next week's "to do"s]. Hope that's a help, I may elaborate more later if I remember anything else. I'm sure others will be along to help soon

Try AON, definately the best for young drivers. My mate is 22 and his bro is 19 and they have 2 minors on one policy for about £400 ish. You will need to join the club as thay ask for a membership number.

Then you have the fun of finding a good car, if you come over to Northern Ireland I can sort you out!!!!!

Good luck

Hi, ignore those ridiculous high street and website brokers quotes. Those sort of companies are not relevant to classic cars.

Firms like Footman James, RH and the excellent Lancaster Insurance will give you a more sensible price.

Times never change do they? Moggies go hand in hand with student life! O happy days they were!!!

Hi, I'm 16 and I just got a quote last week for my insurance next year, AON said about 200 to add me to my dads insurance or 600 on my own policy. Aparently though they add another 25% if you dont keep it in the garage, which is fine for my dad as it would be only another 15-20 quid but for me it would mean another 150!
