Wiring Loom

Post by mike.perry »

I am fitting a new loom in the MM (1952) I have done all the lights and under bonnet wiring but the under dash wiring has me stumped.
There seem to be twice as many wires of each colour as shown in the wiring diagram.
In particular the ignition warning light diagram shows a white cable and a yellow cable to the light, yet the light only has one terminal and there is also a very thin piece of wire wound around it.
Can anyone offer me any advice on what goes where? I have a workshop manual with all the wiring diagrams.

Hello Mike,

the ignition warning light is unlike other lamps because it is fed with two lives, one from the ignition switch and the other from the dynamo regulator.

Thanks for that Alec. Do you happen to know what the order of wires and insulators is and what the long thin length of wire is for?
And finally what order do the wires and insulators go on the steering column lower connections?
Cheers. Still hope to make the national in it!

Hello Mike,

sorry, I'm not actually familiar with the MM. However the lampholder itself should be insulated from the car (it could be that it fits into a plastic holder?) Does the thin wire connect either to the centre contact or the lamp holder casing? It doesn't matter which cable goes where by the way.
