Not seen coil on alternator - they were v often fitted on top of the old dynamo. Best to mount it somewhere nearby - in a cool place and upright if possible. Mine is on rear lower inner wing. Minis had a coil bracket that fitted under a cylinder head nut - you could try that although I dislike anything that interferes with tightening the head nuts properly.
have just unearthed my detailed drawing of the mounting brackets, so should be able to work out what goes where, now. My coil was mounted horizontally.
Is it the C-Ware alternator-coil mount? I had one of them for a while - a triangle with a horizontal flat piece (for mounting the coil on) on top, and perpendicular to that a flat which mounted on the engine...?

I'm no longer a big fan of engine mounted coils; mostly because the mog engine killed the odd coil bracket (see 5min28sec in the MMLGBT Pride Video 2005 (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... igLDl8S4DA - that does show the coil bracket too, not that I wish to inflict my videos on you again!)!) and the coils did seem to burn out with tedious frequency. The Viva engine too had issues with the engine mounted coil - it managed to gently vibrate the screw out of the bracket. Thankfully the coil couldn't move out of the bracket without taking the rocker cover off..
I switched to mounting it vertically on the bulkhead, or possibly the inner wing, somewhere around there... (I honestly can't remember where) - since then, despite my engine getting increasingly sick and vibey (just ask Jonathon what it sounded like when I finally pulled up outside his workshop) I didn't have any more problems with it...

my coil is mounted in that way and one of of the clamps that the bolts go on to has fractured due to vibration so i have a cable tie around it just in case.
I had a couple of coil mounting brackets so cut them and welded back together to produce one long enough to go around an alternator on my A35.
I forgot that an alternator body is larger diameter than a dynamo and of course the mounting "pad" didn't then fit properly.
When / if I convert my Minor I will simply do as others suggest and fit coil to inner wing.
I made a right-angled bracket out of 1/2 inch angle iron with an additional cross brace. It's fixed by the two bolts that hold the alternator mounting bracket to the block, and the coil is then just behind and above the alternator. Driving Minors for 30 years and not had any problems with OLD coils on dynamos or my new brackets, doing 18,000 mile per annum. New coils like so many parts mean that you should carry a spare
If mounting to the wing then mount high to avoid water splashing through tie plate in floods (or avoid floods!).
