Your obviously supposed to change those 2 bolts and countersink them in to the block. Can anyone tell me what size thread the bolts are??

dunno but in the kit I had they are the same thread

THERE THEY ARE

And they are 1/4 UNF - same as the little bolts that cam out - obviously! You must get the heads completely flush with the front plate - nothing sticking up for the chain to catch. Note also - if your duplex chain has a 'joining link' (most don't - but some do) - then make sure that link is on the side away from the engine - otherwise it runs perilously close to the front plate.

Havnt got them quite flush yet but ill finish it tmw.
I did a quick test fit and I believe im going to have an issue!!

When the gears and chain are on and the new lock washer is on the gear I test fit the cover with its new rubber seal. The oil seal is about 5mm away from the small gear (well the plate that goes on the small gear). I can see no physical way of it sealing anything!! Ive obviously missed something there but there are no other bits in the kit.

The kit consisted of:

2x Gears
1xChain
2x Set screws
1x Gasket
1x Lock Washer
1x Oil Seal

All are fitted but its not happening!!!
Anyone got any ideas where I went wrong??

Isn't that the lock washer? The seal runs on the crankshaft pulley.

Apparently I had that one above and a normal Lock Washer in the kit?
I used the normal one on the Cam sprocket, it had a small cut out for the ket on the cam end.
The one pictured above doesnt fit over the crank shaft end or the cam shaft end???

As you can see in the piccy, I used the lock washer in the kit. The plate in my hand is the one that goes back on the crank end under the cover.

Hmm, I'm not sure about the washer but I think the disc you're holding is the oil thrower. The lock washer must go on the pulley bolt somehow.

Doesn't look like a lock washer to me - no keyway slot for starters. Looks a bit like an oil thrower, but again no key slot. Didn't 'youngun' have the same problem recently? Can't recall what the answer was

yes thats the oil thrower
the other lock washer in the pic is correct
the other lock washer goes behind the starter dog

Thats the oil thrower, it merely stops a large amount of oil getting to the seal itself. The pulley actually forms the seal, which is what stops the oil coming out from the cover, the thrower just makes sure too much oil doesnt get round and compromise the seal.

You're not being clear which part you're referring to. I think the one in the first photo is the lock washer and the one he's holding in the second photo is the oil thrower. nick69 said the one in the first photo doesn't fit on the crankshaft end so surely it can't be the oil thrower?

Ok so by the sounds of it, everything is correct as far as the large picture is concerned. Once I mount the oil thrower all should be well.
Aupickup, so the picture of the single washer (?) above that is something that goes on the starter dog? Not related to the timing chain at all?

Bear in mind what aupickup called the starter dog is what I called the pulley bolt. I think the first picture is the lock washer you put on that bolt.

What did the old lock washer you took off look like?

IThe part held in the fingers is the oil thrower - and then the timing case seal fits snugly over the shaft of the crankshaft pulley - or hopefully you are fitting a proper crankshaft damper! There should be a locking washer (but it doesn't do much) under the head of the starter dog - better to put a spot of loctite on it's thread than rely on the lock washer. The 'left-over' part is that so-called locking washer. I can't see from your pic - but I assume you have lined up the 'dots' or scribe marks on the sprockets correctly ?

Ah right sorry I get the 'Starter Dog' thing now. Yes the bolt/recepticle for the crank handle.
It did have a lock washer between that 'starter dog/pully bolt' and the pully but it was one like the camshaft lock washer. Ill use the one in the top picture instead then, with some loctite.
