d day

Post by dalebrignall »

i dont usually watch tea time telly,i was watching the paul ogrady show and he had some clips of the normandy landings.if it was not for that i had compleatly forgotten the signifcence of todays date, which is a terriable for someone like me who is intrested in military history.he had a man aged 96 who flew spitfires on d day and got shot at by the royal navy on his second trip of the day.there was also an ata pilot, this was the air transport auxilary, thease were the lady pilots that ferried aircraft from the factories to the squadrons.they were probally more skilled than the regular pilots because they flew every type of aircraft on the books, with very little conversion onto different types,it could be a single tiger moth one day and a four engine bomber the next.i just feel as a nation we should be remembering the siginfence of today, and the hudge debt we owe to the men that lost there lives on 6june 1944
