A couple of noob questions

Hi, I bought my first minor in May and have a couple of questions! (Only a couple you say...)

First what psi should the tyres be?

and are the points on a fuel pump easy to replace - I can do things like change oil, clean sark plugs etc...!

The minor is a 1968 3 door 1000 model.

Tyre pressures: Cross ply= 22 front, 24 rear. Radials, 145X14"
= 24 front and 26 rear and then find your own preference with use.
Radial 155X14" around 26 front and 28 rear again adjust as you get to know the car. If the centre of the treads wears more rapidly than the outer edges then you have them too high. petrol pump points? Yes,
very easy to change (just loosen the outer contact screw and the blade slides out, no need to remove the screw completely).

The top blade has only one of the two points. The rest of the job is rather more complicated but not difficult if you follow the instructions in the manual.

oil change is easy,use 20/50 oil,make sure you dont get the cheapo recycled oil from the garage forecourt,use a known make,change the oilfilter as well,if you are lucky you will have a spin on filter,if not then its the oldfashioned cartridge filter.undoo the bolttake out the filter remove the big washer that will have stuck to the filter,and replaceand dont forget to change the rubber seal at the top of the filter housing,can be a fiddle,and run some oil around the rubber befor you fit it.,spark plugs are easy use champion n9yc or equivalant and set the gaps to 25 thu using a fealer guage and dont tighten them up too tight,go easy,good luck

Nothing wrong with Asda/Morrison etc 20W50 oil!! It's fine for a Minor.

What he said, its still better quality than the oils that were around in the 60s.

That reminds me, I ned to check the oil in the fiesta...........

Haven't changed the rubber seal on top of the filter bowl for years. If it dont leak leave it alone.

Same here, if the speculators who have pushed the fuel prices up ever start on rubber rings we will be rich! I changed one in over forty years!

ive got a spin on filter so not a worry,i only meentioned the rubber because my tractor has a similar arrangement i changed the filter without doing the rubber,oil everywere.my mini i only changed the filter not the rubber.i was only being accurate.
