Just spent all day scrambling around underneath the car trying to get it scraped down and painted but of course everything i scrape off keeps landing on my face!
Right then.. the obvious answer to this i suppose is wear a face mask and googles, so I did.. the only problem is the goggles keep steaming up everytime i breath!
So I though i'd treat myself today to a nice pair of anti-mist goggles, tried them, worked for about 10 mins then misted up again and I cant see a thing!
What shall I do? Stop breathing?

Surely you're meant to put the goggles over your eyes not your mouth?

hmm, yes good idea!
It's just that when you wear a mask to cover your mouth it deflects your breath up to your goggles, if u see what i mean

I know exactly what u mean! had the same trouble when paint spraying - celly makes my eyes run and you're meant to wear a mask for breathing in fumes at the same time!

In the above situation where is not really trying to avoid particulates more about avoiding it falling in your mouth and its large chunks coming off then goggles on first and mask over the top.
The other thing (which I guess you should do anyway) is to take regular breaks, take the goggles off and put them somewhere dry

get some wide Micropore tape (first aid stuff) and tape right around the top edge of the mask - tape it to your face. All breath deflected downwards

As it's not a case of particulates, as Dan says, you could even put a few tiny holes in your mask with a bradawl, maybe
Does it work if you spit in the goggles and swill them out with seawater, or is that just for diving?

Ok, very funny. Its alright for all those who live by the lovely seaside, but where the devil do I get seawater from - its 112 miles to Weston Super Mare and 112 back!!!! So I spray a car (standing on a stepladder - not v tall) with a taped up mask and a bucket of seawater.
The neighbours will just love this one!!

I've used a Flip up face mask for quite a while.
It's alright as long as you've got some room under the car and Doesn't mist up, but the odd flake of old paint can sometimes get around the edge
