Reversing switch.

Post by polo2k »

Hi all Im just putting mona back in one piece. Im adding a reversing light and ive got a Mr grumpy switch fitted, but the gaitor doesnt fit over it. What other options are there for the switch? for the moment Ive made a plinth out of some odds and sods I had lying about.

Also what does everone use for the light? I was thinking a couple of oblong spot lights wounted as high as possible under the boot floor.

I'm planning on using an old front sidelight type round light on one side and a red one the other as a fog light. Both under the rear bumper ideally.

since the range of the lighs isnt massive maybe they could be fitted in the tail of the rear wings pointing down at 45 degrees

for reversing light switch, use the top remote of the gearbox from a late midget with the switch and swop them over with the moggie one

Bit concerned about the ideas of mounting small lights pointing down towards the ground - remember the light ought to be visible in the daylight, too...

Another way to wire accessory switches is to mount pull switches with built in warning lights on a panel under the drivers glove box (or inst. panel on an MM/SII) and run the feed from the side light switch. That way there is less chance of leaving them on.
There seems to be a shortage of matching fog and reversing lights around at the moment.

Ive been out in the playpen/garage tonight and with a little assistance and found that the swithch supplid with this conversion (brass body and screwed through the plate) needs to contact on a totally flat surface, at a perfect 90 degrees (which the gearstick is not).
We ground down the body of the switch (about 2 threads from the plunger end) this means the positioning of the switch is less crutial.
Ive got the reversing light in the usual position and as the bracket is a bit cheaply made it can be swung out of view (although it stays in position otherwise)

I got my light from swindon halfords and they had matching RING fog and reversing lights. The RING factory is in leeds somewhere and I think they have shop/ mail order, facilities.

Oh dear mine's a little bit brighter than that. Since I broke the glass on my Lucas matching reversing light the only thing I could find in my garage was an old halogen driving light with a ***W bulb. It works off the gearshift of a Midget box though.
