Hi,
Not really sure if this is in the right catagory - its a mechanical question of a sort....
anyone know of the colour for an early Series 2 engine and availablility?
Its the blue/grey colour rather than the later green.

When you say "early series 2" do you mean the Model with the Morris Eight side valve engine or the BMC A series 803cc (OHV)?

I think he means the forst minors with 803cc engines A-series as far as I know these were blue/grey on LCVs and green on saloons and travs but I stand to be corrected! regarding availability I can't help as me myself am looking for the correct code for the later green!

Some of the SII cars (don't know about LCVs) had blue/grey engines too. Ray Newell's "Original Morris Minor" states this, and also says that there is no known reason why some had this colour, and some of the same age had green engines. My early SII has a blue/grey 803cc engine, and it's the original engine too, suggesting it has always been this colour.

BTW Youngun, all Series II cars had the horrid (in my opinion!!) 803cc early A-Series engine the sidevalve engine was only in series MMs. From 1952 up till '54 the series II had the cheesegrater grille and early gold coloured dash like the MM, but from '54 they got the later grille like on the 1000, and also the revised interior with the central speedo etc. 'Early' usually refers to the ones made up until '54 with the old style interior and grille (like my car)and 'late' to the post '54 with the later dash and grille. It's a bit confusing!!

the original 948 engine in my 57 saloon was blue/grey. would body colour have dictated the engine colour ? as mines dark green

According to "original Morris Minor" the A series engines were always green, but the shades often varied depending upon what was available at the time.
Ive seen A series engines in olive drab type green, all the way to deep Brunswick style emerald green.

Yes its a 1953 Series 2 with the mighty 803cc A series engine. And yes it was a sort of bluey grey colour as in the pic in Ray Newall's book. Just wondered if anyone has had to match it up and knew what it was, or is it case of go to a paint shop with the rocker cover and try and match up some enamel...
It does happen to be an LCV, but I've seen that colour on cars in the past.

Sorry- I've no idea what the paint code is for it. People seem to have enough trouble getting the correct green...! Good luck anyway. Mogwai- not sure about body colour dictating engine colour- my SII is birch grey, which is kind of similar to the bluey grey engine colour...

Sure the mysterious 'blue-grey' isn't just faded out green ???

I have to replace the oil pan of my 948 1957 engine. The "new" one has to be resprayed. What is the name or code of this green? The body colour of the car is simply black.
