Indicators glow NOT flash

Probably a silly question......

My trafficators are on an separate switch to the flashing indicators and they work fine.

The flashing indicator switch suffered from water leaking onto it when the screen leaked. During this time the flashing component failed regularly and was restored when drenching just the switch in WD40.

Now there is no flashing at all. Just glowing.

My question is..... could it be the switch that needs taking apart and examining or is it more likely I need a new flasher unit?

Do switches just serve to switch on or off or do they actually affect the flashing effect?

Well, I know what I mean

if it got wet its probably corrosion in the switch causing a high resistance across the contacts I would try cleaning that first

But really - it's likely to be the flasher unit if there is no flashing - try another - they cost little.

I'm sure its the flasher unit - when I bashed it it flashed!

As I understand it this is the standard test for MM electro-mechanical parts (trafficators, petrol pump, horn, and flasher unit).

IMPACT
Inertia induced Momentary Physical Assistance of Componants of a Temporary nature due to recalcitrant mechanical in-activity demonstrated by age or wear.

A bit like bashing my dog on the head to get him going!

Thanks for the advice. Will pop out and see which connectors are on the current [no pun intended] unit and order another. Then if a clean up works, I've got a spare.

Not sure I like the sound of bashing the dog! Doesn't sound like you Roger :-?

Might have to think twice about letting you have the privelige of working on my car

You hardly need to'order' a flasher unit - any parts place - maybe even Hellfrauds - will have them !

Actually the 3 terminal hot wire type are getting hard to get except from specialist. The parts places only seem to have the modern transitorised one. This has connections that look the same but ARE NOT. They need a hard wired earth and do not have a tell tail lamp output.
