dellorto...come on, piece if rubbishness...ness...

Post by callyspoy »

okay, i hate my car at the moment. genuinely, just really annoyed with it. the problem is myself! i've had it a shade over a year, and cant stop tinkering, i am near the end of my mechanical tinkering, and it just wont run properly!
now then...
i drove to northampton, points got stuck, slight overheating on the way back, but apart from that, it was alright!
so...i have had a little play since i came back, bought new points, wasnt happy witht eh way things sounded though, really was rough. so...i changed the head gasket, blown between 2and 3, no problem, changed that, compression is good and even in all cylinders, strobe gunned the timing, but...it just is a dog! i really want this carb to work, but it just isnt being helpful...so...basically, any one got any first hand experience of dellorto's fitted to an A series, i would love to pick your brains, as i cant think what else could be wrong with the engine, so it must be the carb now. angry! very angry...once it gets over 2000 revs, its a rocket(by my standards!) so is really frustrating...HELP!!

Best advice I can give is to fit an SU HIF 38 or maybe a 44. So much easier - and better fuel economy too. But why did the engine blow the head gasket ?

i know, im going to fit my dads 1 3/4 carb, as i know it works, see if ir definitely is thte carb, if so i am going to save up(for a change) and get the dellorto tuned. i know its not as practical, worse fuel economy etc, but i like it, stupid i know, but love knows no boundaries!
incidently roy...got that gearbox, did the test you said and it worked out at just under .9 to 1, which was a bonus!

it could be a problem in the progresion circuit as this works at part throttle to smooth the pickup between idle & the point at which the mainjet starts to operate. I would try cleaning out the progresion circuit & idle jets may be a bit of muck in there blocking things up
