hi again,

So has anyone sorted out a nice neat way of using a thick material like carpet on their scuttle panel liners (the boards that go on either side to the front of the front doors, down by your feet)? I would like to use carpet but there is the problem of tailoring it down to fit under the door trim strip - and the carpet I have in mind is quite thick, with a long pile and a thick backing.

Any thoughts? Experience? Photos of successful genius set-ups?

Well the original panels screw into place so feasibly you could dispense with them altogether and screw the carpet on instead. The bare backing would probably be no thicker than the original board so you may be able to tuck it under the door trim.

The boards are indeed thick - but they are covered with vinyl, and at the door-side edge of the scuttle panel the vinyl is extended beyond the board and clipped into place around the door frame. Then the door trim clips over it. I guess the vinyl is very thin so fits under the door trim.

I have a photo showing this really clearly but am too short on computer time atm to bung it on photobucket and link to it to show what i mean

Normally you would, stitch some leathercloth to the edge of the carpet then stick that round the panel, i've done this to my gearbox cover.
