"Mopping", what's involved?

I was advised by a colleague that Rosie's paintwork would benefit greatly by "mopping" with a cutting compound.
Anybody ever done this? I need to know the "do's and dont's" before I have a go!

Cutting compound is more abrasive than the likes of 'T Cut' and can give spectacular results as it removes old paint layers and smooths out the finish when used correctly. It is important to avoid rubbing too hard on any edges. It is ideal where you have the dreaded 'orange peel' effect
as this usually means that there is a good thickness of paint there which can safely be levelled off. Follow the instuctions to the letter.

Believe it or not mine needs this just too smooth out some orange peal, normal used is a G3 compound as willie said like t cut but a bit more abraisve, may be try t cut first, I've had excellent results with old moggy paintwork with it, just do small areas at a time and really get the cloth wet with Tcut, when your cloth starts to have a blueishness you know your cutting it back, then buff to a nice shine then wax for a deep shine! and rest!!!

when i mop, i use plenty of water, as you can burn the paint.How flat is your paint?? Trying hand polishing with g3 or t-cut??

Just a word of caution, unless your paint is peely or very oxidized then just use a polishing mop head with machine polish.
Its very easy to mop through your paint if using G3 especially if it is original celly paint then it will already be quite thin and will be very easy to flat through. As Tom84 says use loads of water to keep it cool, and move anything you do not want plastered in G3 at least 15 ft away.
James, easiest way to remove peel is a 1500 D/A disc fitted on an isolation pad on your D/A, only use a slow speed though , you will be amazed at the results.

I have a tub of F3 cutting compound. Is this stuff suitable?
Maybe a bit less abrasive than G3...

Oh, and do you apply the compound directly to the mop head...or wipe it on to the paintwork with a cloth before taking the mop to it?
