Insurance

Hey there all, i am in the middle of restoring my minor (`63 4 door) and while I had the laptop on, I figured it would be a good idea to get some insuranc quotes.
Went on the tesco site and entered the 5 million questions.
Fully comp came up at £140, I figured that i would never need the payouts as i do the work my self, and the yorkshireman in me was coming out!
I decided to try modifying the quote to TPFT (Third Party Fire and Theft) and it came up at £150!!!
Has anyone run into this before? Is it just a glitch in my favor, or is there a reason for this?

I just insured with RH, £65 including breakdown cover.
I wouldn't bother with their online quote system as I never received a reply from that, ring them they are very helpful.

I remember when I insured the rotbox fester that it came out about 10% cheaper to insure FC than tpft for just me. When I added the girlfriend it flipped to cheaper TPFT (she was on a provisional at the time)

Insurance can be strange! When I added my wife on the premium went down, even though she had 3 points for speeding and a recent accident!

I was looking at insurance for a vile early 90s hatchback recently (a bit more load space than my saloon, for transporting reenactment gear), and found that the cheapest was 3rd party, fire & theft at £350, while fully comp would have been £500... and 3rd party only £700!
Quite how having least cover doubles the cost of it, I don't know! Unless they're making assumptions about the sort of driver that goes for 3rd party only? The more cover you want, the more responsible a driver you're likely to be?

There are quite a handful of Insurers for classic cars - to get the best price you need to phone or email them as they're not on the comparison websites.
Don't forget to try AON, the club insurance scheme. For young drivers they may well be the cheapest and for everyone else it may be worth paying a bit more to get better peace of mind.
Personally I go for the cheapest quote I can find as I like to drive real junk cars ;-)

I have recently changed one of mine over to RH. It was cheaper and they provide breakdown cover.
Never had much luck with AON unfortunately.
