Progress!!

Post by DAVIDMCCULLOUGH »

Finally some progress on my lowlight! Yesterday I sprayed the engine bay, today I polished it and then got the engine and gearbox back in. Definately a couple of good days work. :D

I did have some problems with the new gearbox mounts, both had to be modified to fit. On one side the holes were out by about 3mm and on the other one I had to file quite a bit off the top as it wouldnt seat properly.

Im having a day off tomorow, going to a big Steam Fair at Shanes Castle in Antrim. Hopefully there will be some bargains in the autojumble!

Had the same sort of problems with gearbox mounts myself years ago. Had to cut bits off and file off corners etc. Maybe the mounts came off a Morris 8 or something. Possibly something else that needs remanufacturing some time.

Yup. M8 mounts are similar but slightly different in the bolt spacing.

The lowlight is moving under her own power again!!! :D All panels are back on and hopefully tomorrow I will get the brakes bled up. Just need the interoir and carpets back in and nearly there.

Mots in Northern Ireland are done in government run test centres and usually theres at least a 6 weeks waiting list for a test. The soonest one I could get was for 20th June, problem is though we leave on the 19th for the national and I want to have done lots of miles before that. Going to have to phone every day for cancelations.

MOT in the morning at 11.45!!!! Fingers crossed everyone.

Its looking quite good now with its new number plates and some of the chrome replaced. Still lots of polishing to do, but its going quite well for a sidevalve!
