Windscreen rubber pale grey and fading fast...

Hi,

My windscreen rubbers at front and back are nearly white with age but still a good seal.

I'm sure I've seen advice here for what to use to re-blacken them, but now can't find the topic.

Any ideas? Preferably something cheap (!) and that will also help prevent the rubber perishing.

I've already had tyre black and boot polish suggested by two freieds who stated that their way was best and the other might be harmful to the rubber! :)

Thanks in advance...

Adam.

Polish it up with T -cut - or Brasso.

'Black Wow' is the best you can buy and what the professional detailers use:

Personally I'd try Autoglym rubber/plastic treatment first as this has always worked wonders for me.
I've heard of folk using boot polish on bumpers and brasso apparently works wonders on panels as a better t-cut alternative.
I've not heard of using either on rubber though, rubber's funny stuff.

If you want a quick fix (i.e. not long term!) then used engine oil can work a bit and it also moistureises the rubber a little.

I tried the 'back to black' treatments which are sold for bumper and tyre application. Reasonable result. Regarding the use of oil, this will tend to rot the rubber but I have seen Glycerine recommended for the job. I have no idea of the results.

Glycerene would probaby work quite well. There is a produck that Halfrauds do called wet and black that ive had good results on with tyres and plastics. :)
