trafficator - semaphores not working

Post by tortron »

have tried taking them out and running them straight from the battery - the lights will work, but there is no movement

i separated the coil from the semaphore and tried that connected directly to the battery (with piston inside) and still no movement

i dont seem to be getting any voltage drop across the coil.

anyone got any ideas? are both the coils gone? any other tests i can do to see whats up?

on closer inspection - after cleaning there looks like there are a few small spots where 1 or 2 adjoining wires on the coil have had their surface rubbed off. could this be it?

i have a sidevalve which has the SF40 trafficators. They dont have the sliding contact like the later ones.

i have decided that the coil was short circuiting, looks like 50 odd years of weather etc has removed the coating of the wire

so i shall get/do it my self - them rewound

lucky for you guys i will document the entire thing and write up a how to
