well i went to santa pod this weekend as it was a vee dub thing(big bang) and my friend has a camper, so we went along. brilliant time, but big plus was the car, cruising at 60/65 at 2700 revs was nice, nice drive, HAPPPPPPPY!!!!!

Excellent news mate! Glad you are getting some positive results from all the hard work you have been putting in.
No excuse for SADMOG meets now then! The further away the better to get more driving time eh!

kevin and Mr Benn...yes revs were low, so it was quiet driving, which was nice(bar my music, that was loudish!) but in regards to good fuel consumption...i have a 45 dellorto on it, so its not fantastic, but on the plus side, it still pulls nicely even with that diff, so thats good. i averaged approx 35 MPG, which is very soso...but all in all, i think its not bad all things considered...
incidently...i did overheat a little, was thinking, if i fit a higher pressure/lb rad cap, will that help? i have the standard cap at the moment, and i know it has said before to fit a different one, but never having a problem before i never bothered...advice would be much appreciated...just in case it has any bearing, i have a 88 thermostat...

Change to a 74 stat for summer! Higher pressure cap only raises the boiling point even higher above 100 degrees C - and you really don't want the engine running that high anyway - 90 is more than enough. If you have the single Minor fan blade on there - add another blade (make sure it is Minor and NOT Mini blade!) at right angles and it should help with any heat removal.

A lower temperature thermostat won't make the cooling system more efficient, it just makes the system run cooler in general, which gives you a bit more reserve capacity in case the engine briefly generates more heat than the radiator can dispose of. I think if you need to fit a lower temperature thermostat to prevent it boiling there must be something wrong.

Oh I agree - but sometimes that overheating just happens when slogging up a hill say - so a little 'reserve capacity' can deal with that and then the system can cool again on the down slope.
