Polymer Sealant

I'm going to have my brand new Volvo S40 (

) treated with Polymer Sealant.
I have studied the various websites and as I understand it seals the pores left when the solvent evaporates from the paint. The only reason I'm having it done is for the paintwork guarantee.
Has anyone ever tried it on brand new Chrome work? I wonder if it might seal it and make it last longer! I will ask the man when he does the job and blag a sample to try.

Is this one of these 'never need to polish for x years' things? If so they're a con. Wax or sealant (the type you use like wax) does the same job. Most of these systems require regular top ups and service so don't work as well as they initially claim. Reading small print on these systems is always a good idea. If you have to have it done then there's no choice. But personally I think there's no substitute to a good carnuba wax over well polished paint topped up as necassary.

Actually some of the reputable manufacturers like Auto Glym have a life time seal product.
My experience on my daily drive which does 30K a year is that it works well - I never polish it just a occasional car wash, but after four years the water still beads up and it isn't at all flat.
But as I said its all about the guarantee.
I have tried carnuba wax on Chrome, but it didn't seem to help.

I may be barking up the wrong tree here but I thought that most modern chromework was based on plastic and not metal ?

You can buy a clear laquer for chrome from Frosts to seal it from moisture etc..

I had my PT Cruiser treated with one of these sealants (Supaguard) when I bought it. I've had the car almost 3 years and never needed to polish it. I just wash and leather it and it comes up great.

for what it's worth, I used car plan, nano treatment, 12 months ago on my 4x4 The vehicle stands out all the time, I have only washed it twice in that time. This nano fluid is like water in consistency It comes with a microfibre cloth and is applied after the car is polished. It claims that the nano sized compounds seal the pores of the surface and the rain washes the car. I am impressed.

You can get a clear version of POR15 which is supposed to be the "bees knees" for protecting chrome
