Hot semaphore!

Hi,
I notice that the right side semaphore was a bit slow getting upp.
So I tried to oil but then some smoke came out...
When I touched the electromagnet it was really hot.
What resitance should it have?
The semaphore is marked 4 62 54062A and S(?)F80

Hi Lars,

Sorry I dont have an answer for you but I too have a simular problem. One of my semaphores gets allot hotter than the other one!

I did ask somone who had a video on youtube and he said to check that they were both 12v and not 6v

I know they are both 12v but one of mine also gets very hot.

Hey Lars,

Any luck with the trafficators??

Just a thought, if the other side does not heat up and operates ok then can you not measure the impediance of that one and then compare it with the one that gets too hot?

Both of mine get hot, and I think it's normal. They do have to generate a strong magnetic field, and their is no cooling like in an electric motor.

That's not right.

My advice is take the unit off and work it by hand and clean up the solenoid rod, but be very careful to keep it clean or it will jam. Then just the tiniest drop of sewing machine oil to keep the damp out.

The problem I have with mine is that they refuse to drop at speeds in excess of 70 mph!
