Hi All,
Just out doing some routine maintenance on Julie. Just drained the gearbox oil, anyone know how much oil to put back in, or what level to fill it up to?

Tried searching hundreds of previous posts but no luck finding the answer I wanted  .

Thanks
Mick

There should be filler marks where you put the oil in on the passenger side of the gearbox accessed by a rubber bung in the transmission tunnel. If i remember correctly it takes about 1.5l of oil. Personally I only use the filler to see the level it's a real faff to fill from here. I remove the gear lever and pour it in there keeping an eye on the level at the filler. This saves spilling oil all over the floors and desperately trying to mop it up before it reaches carpet!

I use a funnel in the gearbox filler hole and fill with oil to the bottom of the filler plug thread.

And you do know it's just engine oil - not gear oil ?

Yes I used the same 20/50 that I use in the engine.

I used a long bendy necked funnel which worked perfectly, I added 2 pints which took the level to about an inch from the top of the filler neck.

:D

Thanks to all for your help and advice.

Should really be right up to the filler - and 10W40 will give less drag and better fuel economy! However - if the syncro is a bit shakey then 20W50 may be the better bet.

Syncros are almost non existant.
I do have another box which I am going to put on, a bit later in the summer when I have more time.
So not being to fussy just now with it, as long as it lasts me till then.
