MSN has just run a feature "top 50 classic cars" and the Morris was not featured...

obviously know nothing about real cars then

any link jack?

I find that a lot of lower-performance, everyday classics are left out of these sorts of lists, excepting the Beetle and the Mini. So many lovely, "common" cars that were around in the fifties, sixties and seventies are probably not emntioned.

Besides, who needs a list to know that our cars are great?:)

if its msn isnt that american? didnt think moggys were that big over there, remember reading an article in minor monthly about an english couple over in america in there mog at a classic car show and every one kept asking them what there car was???

You'd be amazed - we have quite a few members all over the States and there are several moggie clubs over there - many are coming to the National Rally!

There were some right surprises on that list!
And yes, you do generally get a "what's that?" when you go out driving in a moggy here (and huge smiles from all) but actually they're becoming better known with time... I know many people who have asked me to get them Morrises!

The Minor IS there - only it's called a Renault 4CV - where do you think Morris got the body shape from !

Do you mean the styling was from lots of other cars, or there were lots of other cars on the list?..
I did notice the similarities between the 4CV and the Moggy, but obviously the Moggy was the rightful occupant of that time period's spot on the list... There were American cars on there, but they were the ones which were imported to England. The 100E certainly, and I think the Bel Air too... Quite a few of the cars they showed didn't really seem "top" to me! They even admitted that a few of them were "unremarkable" or failures... Ah well. Anything to fill space, eh...

Well I read somewhere that Morris had a 4CV on the premises - and pretty much copied it! But yes - that generic shape was already being used in US of A on much larger cars of course.
In the list of cars - I have to take issue with the Humber Hawk showing at #3. While it was a revolutionary car in the UK (we had the older body style Hawk at the time - and I was wildly jealous of the family across the street who got the new one!) - again it was pretty much based on standard US styling of the era.

The Humber Hawk was one of the ones I disagreed with, too- it wasn't anywhere near one of the top classics. But then, there weren't many classic Brits in there- there was a notable absence of British cars later than about the forties- no later MGs, no TRs or AHs... [/quote]

from the well documented trip to USA that Issigonis made when contemplating a new small car for Morris Motors...
I expect he took a camera with him, unless he had a photographic memory!

At least he didn't copy the suicide doors - although the earlier Morris 8E had these doors.
