Hi I need to jack up the front of my morris minor and put it on axle stands but i am not sure where it the car can be jacked up at the front and where to put the axle stands.

I use a block of wood or rubber between the jack pad and place under the chassis leg- I jack the chassis leg at the eyebolt where the suspension wishbone is attached to the chassis leg as this area is internally re-inforced.

Or I jack both sides at once use a wide block of wood between jack pad and chassis and jack under front crossmember- be careful as its angled here and not flat and the wood may slip off- I use an angled thick plank of wood here to do the job. The thick plank i use reaches to each chassis leg thus spreading the load.

Jacking advise is given at your own risk- its up to you what you do, this is just what works for me. Be careful! and be careful not to catch brake pipes, wires etc.

Jack slowly and keep an eye on things as if your chassis legs are weak they may collapse!

As above - however I always jacked my Traveller at the point listed above - and so I didn't notice the chassis leg had cracked there - because it was always hidden by the wood pad ! Spotted it just in time for some pre-MOT welding practice.

Thanks this might seem silly but how can I tell which are the chassis legs on the front as do not want to use wrong place

they look like 2 box sections running from the front of the car towards the centre cross member, obvious features in them are the eyebolts as part of the front suspension

If you can't tell which are the chassis legs - I have to ask - why are you jacking the car up ? What are you planning to do under there ?

Do you have a manual? Haynes available from ebay, club manual is available from club. Copies of BMC workshop manual available also. All worth reading and I'm sure one of them says where to jack and what th chassis legs are.

Just dont jack the thing up on the sills, especially if strucutural integrity is unknown!

I assume you mean the original jacking points rather than the sills themselves, and yes the original jacking points are for the brave

I'm scared to jack mine up at all!!!

whats the best way to jack up the rear, as i want to change the spring bushes

its got no chassis

To drop the axle enough to change the bushes, I jacked mine up at the bottom of the diff, then used two big blocks of wood (very thick planks) one placed across both rear floor pans near the spring mounts and supported by two axle stands. Then I supported the rear portion of the boot floor (between petrol tank and bumper) with another thck plank of wood to spread the weight and two axle stands placed at each end of this plank.

You can then unbolt the required shackles and gently lower the jack to allow the axle to drop a little. Keep the axle supported by jack for added safety.
