Hi Guys
Im hoping some people around here might know about earlyish Landys...
my uncle is looking to buy a tax exempt version and looked at a '69 Series 11a yesterday. What put him off was a lack of syncro. on 2nd. Should a series 11a have syncro on 1st/2nd?
Cheers

I had a 1970 SIIA that came with a full syncro box as standard from the factory.
The late models had an overlap with the SIII hence a few SIIA had a hybrid box - full syncro box but older type clutch operating mechanism.
It's possible to build to build yourself exactly the same.
The Haynes book on restoring Series Land Rover outlines how do do it and I can scan the relevant pages if you want.
To be honest the SIIa box isn't that difficult to use so not really worth the effort though.

I believe it's also stronger than the SIII 'box and is the choice of series 'boxes to V8

It depends on the SIII gearbox.
The late versions were just as strong as the SIIA.
I've got both early and late SII1 and other then serial number you cann't tell them apart but there are internal differences with, I think, the type of bearings.
