A few threads are suggeting these are the best modern replacement seats- has anyone on here fitted them in a 4 door- do they restrict the room in the back much?

Hi Mate, I have Saab seats in my 2 door. They do take up a bit of room and space in the back was a bit tight but just useable for short journeys anyway. The advantage to me was that they are much more comfortable. As an aside we also put flat bar under the floor and used large washers to strengthen the floor a bit as the seats are heavier than the standard MM seats. The saab seats are alos wider so careful when you fit them. I can't send any pics at the mo as the car is all stripped down for welding and a new xmember but maybe this is helpful.

I think my seats were from a saab 99 and were a tenner from teh scrap yard. Cheers, Jeff

I'm assuming the cabin size of a 2 door and 4 door is overall the same, I also had Saab seats in a two door. it was a bit difficult to get in and out of the rear (problem you wouldn't have) but was okay once in the back. As the seats were slideable backwards and forwards, I just pulled them forward a bit if necessary. As you have 4 doors you will have a much wider choice of seats since they don't have to tilt forward.

Have a look at older Jag seats as they sometimes go cheap on Ebay and look more in keeping. You can get quite fat seats in if you mount higher & squish close together. Obviously, leave enough room to pull the handbrake.

Nope, 2 door has much larger doors and a different rear seat design. The overall volume is the same though, I guess

Don't forget seats are like a pair of shoes. Try them before you take advice as gospel. I loved the Metro seats I had in my '59 4-door.
Pop down a scrapyard and try a few out.

My favourite seats were from a Rover p6 - you can also fit the rears to match with a bit of work.

That's what I mean't - volume, or front and rear legroom. I knew about the doors but the different rear seat is news to me. Must have a look next time
