When a spring starts to loose its spring does it's set reduce proportionally? That is to say, if I have two rear springs that have flattened by the same amount do they still have the same spring rate as each other?

More or less in that they are both knackered Don't want you having a Close Shave due to dodgy suspension do we

Yes - provided there are no broken/cracked leaves. They can of course be softened, reset and then retempered - but new ones are really not that expensive. I doubt it's worth it!

I would get the new ones, I broke the top leaf of a spring that was well settled coming off the Liverpool boat on the way to last years national rally. Thankfully we got it repaired without too much hassel. the first job I did when I got back was too replace both springs with a new set.

Cheers for the replies. Don't worry, I'm not intending to use them, but, armed with that info when I find the two that are buried in a shed somewhere I'll probably bin them - if they match or not!

You could of course try dismantling both sets - and making up a new set using the best leaves from each - make up 6 or 7 leave version, perhaps doubling up some of the longer leaves and leaving out some of the shorter ones. This way you could make the spring as hard or as soft as you wish!

Are new Minor springs any good then? I've heard not great things about new Midget ones, and would've thought they're made/ sourced from the same places.

A decent pair of original ones, or getting the existing ones retempered seems a better bet based on what I've read

I know a few folk who have bought new sets from ESM and they say they are fine.
