boot lid doesn't lock

Hi,

My boot lid closes fines but can't be locked anymore. In fact there's very little difference in how far the handle will rotate whether it's locked or not.

I've tried to take out the lock but couldn't figure out out to remove the handle. The workshop manual is surprisingly silent about this.

Any tip?

I assume its a late type boot lid - you need to take off the boot catch (4 screws on inside of lid) then you can access the fixings for the handle. The earlier one has the screws on the outside.

Thanks - what tool do you need to remove the handle?

I cant remember off hand whether it was screws or bolts - 1 or the other.

I couldn't see either on mine: it's a sort of circular nut with notches that screws around the base of the handle.

Ok - just for you I've just been out and taken mine off to refresh my memory :D - around the base of the handle is a roughly triangular plate and at the bottom 2 corners of this there is a 2ba stud held by a nut accessed from inside the bood lid after removing the boot catch. Undo these and the whole handle assy should pull out.

Many thanks - I'll try that.

How did you get on my friend - did you sort it?

Ok I've found the two nuts and managed to remove the handle. The problem is that it still moves by 30° when locked and this is enough to open the boot. Is it possible to fix this? I'd rather keep the same barrel to avoid having a second key if possible.

Not sure - I fitted a new handle to cure mine.

I've taken apart the handle and noticed that the thingy that goes across when you turn the key was quite worn or broken. However the other end looked ok so I've turn the handle upside-down and now it works! Job done.

Nice work :)

I think someone had rotated my boot handle already as it wouldn't lock either way and had to be replaced.
