The messageboard has been down due to a hack attempt. I would have found it faster but for
1) blaming some new code of mine (not related to the messageboard)
2) Mother in Law round for Easter Dinner

Thats the second time recently (the hacking, not the Easter Dinner).

Never a dull moment!

Hmm, disturbing news - hacked how (what kind of exploit), and did they manage to steal the User ID/PSW database table??

Still investigating. Don't want to say too much in case it helps future attacks

Oki. Maybe best thing now then is for everyone to change password - if you use the same pw on other services change it there, too, but be quick. Use something longer than 8 mixed characters.
And never use the same psw on more sites.

Cheers /Richard

A little extreme for a message board attack, isn't it? If you use the same password here as you use for your online bank, fair enough, but nobody'd do that - would they? ;)

Not all banks use passwords for online. HSBC use dob and a min 6 digit pin, which has never struck me as that secure. A lot of banks use a pin and password system where you need both to get in. And I know people use very easy passwords to guess sometimes and I'm certain a lot of people use very easy pins too.

And as a reminder - you should never tell anyone your full pin for anything or password for anything (banks will ask you for partial characters sometimes or a full new password if you are changing it)

It's not the messageboard they're after - that was just a side effect. Its the server they're after.
