this is my £500.00 car
this is the drivers cill, do i repair or have a new cill welded in, the ends are in good solid condition and also the underneath, except for the middle section as shown by the dirty rust

pics of boot and floor and arch iside,
boot floor and rear hangers and chassis bit is all solid and no patches or repairs and original
as can be seen the inner wings and flanges also in very good nick

now this was a car from ebay, ok it will need some minor repairs and a respray,

looks you got yourself 1 really solid car there! If it was me I'd repair that sill rather than replacing with the problems there is on repro panels!

Yes it would be a shame to hack out a sound panel rather than do a smallish local repair. Or you could just scrap it and get a commercial!!

It looks quite solid. Set to it with a coarse wire wheel on grinder and see what you have left, it might even clean up and just need painting. Will be tricky to reach inside the sill to remove rust though. You could just cut out and butt weld in a section of the floor edge panel that would take care of the rust inside the sill structure. As the boxing panel looks sound, I would not replace the whole sill.

I've just done a 1/4 rear floor section, outer floor, sill, box panel, C post and A post. On that basis...PATCH IT, PATCH IT, while you've still got your sanity :o :o !!

well thanks for the input guys

i have checked the door posts are all excellent condition no rot at all
rear 1/4 panels are also in excellent condition

now do i strip off all the old underseal, that has ptob ben on for the last 30 years or so and have in my opinion served the car well

this is a shot of the inner wing and bump stop, the light area is the original paint and the dark is underseal, you can see the bump stop panel which is in excellent condition

also had a good day taking out all the wing bolts, and got every one out except one on the drivers side top, so that will be a repair :D

Hmm, well my near side sill looked like this after i took the kickplates off.....

But i still cut the whole lot out and replaced it from the inner sill step outwards. Its having the knowledge that you've got new steel where it matters, that matters in the end.....any rust and you might as well hack it all out, its not too much of a job to be honest!
