Greetings!

I'm having two electrical problems. I'll attempt them one at a time, as I know it will be shocking if I succeed!

I installed a new fuel gauge sending unit. Thought I did a great job until I ran out of petrol on the road... the gauge was still reading "full." I thought I was getting great milage!

Have I wired it backwards or could the regulator on the spedo be faulty?

has this happened since replacing the gauge?. try unpluging the tank sender if it still reads max the wire from the gauge to the sender could be traped & shorting to earth somewhere if it drops could be a sticking tank sender.

I removed the sending wire, the gauge slowly fell to "empty."
So, tomorrow I'll play with the sending unit to see if it's hanging up in the tank. Right now it's oriented with the wire tab on top (for the connection wire) toward the front of the car (12 o'clock). It's a '67.

The other electrical problem I'm having appears to be a faulty dip switch that is being tempermental. I'll replace it with one with a more even disposition.

Dip switch may be jammed up with old carpet. Sounds like sender is jammed - or may be wrong type for the gauge.

You have probably fitted the wrong sender unit. If you have a Bronze
faced speedo (including the 1962 to 1964 '1098'type) you must use the sender which has a nut on the terminal. Black faced speedos must have a Lucar type push on terminal. I now see that you have a 1967 car so it must have the Lucar type terminal. You cannot wire this type back to front as it is not polarity conscious, it is thermocoupled.
