With my 1098 I easilly get 40 mpg.
Driving the same way (gentle) what sort of mpg will a 1275 A plus lump do ?

About the same or maybe even slightly better. Certainly better if you fitted the Ford Type9 5 Speed gearbox and did a lot of 5th gear relaxed motorway cruising. The 5 speed gives you 20MPH per 1000 revs so at 60 MPH that's 3,000 RPM The standard 1098 box with standard diff gives you 15 MPH per 1000 Revs, to at 60 MPH that's 4,000 RPM.
Another option is to fit the 1275 and change the diff to lower 4th gear RPM, but those diffs are fetching high prices right now. Plenty of options though.
