Morris Minor Owners Club

Good morning,

I’m writing from a company called Twofour Broadcast (www.twofour.co.uk). We’re currently making a television series for a major television channel that revolves around our presenter driving 1958 era classic cars around the leisure routes of the British Isles, as described in motoring guide books of that period. The series, which coincides with the 50th anniversary of the first motorway being built in the UK, will showcase some of the most beautiful parts of our country.

We’re looking for cars that would have been driven in 1958 (or thereabouts) that are road worthy and could be driven by our presenter along these routes, which range from about 10 to 50 miles. We’re looking for six cars and will need each car for about five days filming in the early summer of 2008 (dates and locations are not yet finalised). We would like one of our six cars to be a Morris Minor, preferably a Traveller with woodwork.

This request should be made to Rosie Hamilton through the club contacts she will then be able to put you in contact with the nearest branch.

Thats very True Dennis however lots of owners won't travel far and also Rosie will explain the terms and conditions that you need to be aware of especially if its someone else driving your car, because they wont be able to do it on your insurance. Also you should be paid a fair fee and any out of pocket expenses.
I am not saying this is the case with this request but companies do like to go onto club websites direct in the hope of getting the cars for free (no mention has been made of a fee insurance etc so far) because if they go to the classic car hire companies they were charging £200 a day plus a drivers fee a couple of years ago.
I am not trying to put anyone of as I consider it a great thing to do having done it myself a couple of times, but just wish others to be fully aware of the implications.

I don't think there should be a pecking order for these sort of requests, anyone who is interested will be able to fend for themselves, if they don't want to charge for arguements sake then so be it. Advise could be sought from the club once a person has their name down, if needed. If it always has to go through a third party there is a good chance it won't get the coverage.

Anyone can apply to join in the Lord Mayors show on behalf of the club. All you do is send in good clear photos of your car. The only rule is that once you've done it you can't enter the same car again.

I think the reason its suggested that Rosie "filters" these film requests is to protect the members. Some film companies have been known to damage cars, wreck gearboxes etc and then hand the car back without any compensation. I am sure noone wants that to happen to any of our cars.

and you would have to be a fool not to get a written terms and conditions drawn up

Agreed, I've heard of some heartbreaking stories - dont want it to happen to anyone here

My own opinion for what its worth, is that if someone comes on here asking for a car for film work etc, and gets a response from an interested person on the board, it is for them to agree terms. After all, if they are both happy with the deal, why should it be necessary to involve a third person?

PS I have experienced filmwork myself on more than one occasion
