Will be spraying my traveller soon with Cellulose paint, can anyone tell me if the jointing strip between the two sections of roof should be sprayed as well? The car was originally sprayed in Almond Green, but not well with micro blisters all over and the original rubber strip was sort of sprayed if you know what I mean! Regards Dean

Mine didn't have any paint on the seal when I got it so I put masking tape on it before the respray. Only trouble was the edges of the fresh paint tended to lift and tear when I peeled it off afterwards.

I still have the rear section of roof mounted on the timber frame which is not fixed to the vehicle at present, so it sounds like it would be better to spray both sections seperately and then fit together with a new seal?

That sounds like a good plan to me.

Alex you should always string rubber seals so that the paint goes under the seal by a few mm, then when dry remove the string,flex or whatever you have uses for an original look.

Where's the best place to get a new seal from? Some of the recent parts I have ordered have been crap.

Try Steve Foreman 'Woodies' or Baines seals and rubber products direct. Measure the depth of the roof top to the inside face on which the wooden bar mounts, (where the bolts go through) The seal needs to be at least 10mm longer than this so that you can pull it through tightly, to then drill through to fit the bolts.
The original rubber was like this but the new ones are too short, so if possible check visually before you buy.

Okay, thanks for the advice. We used Steve Foreman when we replaced the timber back in 1992, it still looks great and it fitted properly.

Steve helped me out with the wood for my traveller. He was very understanding.
