Applying Dum Dum

I am re-assembling my Traveller; any tips for the quick and easy application of Dum Dum to the wood frame?

Roll into a golf sized ball, then squeeze strands from this which are about 8mm diameter you should aim for 2 ft lengths. Keeping the dum dum warm (hand heat is enough) apply this to the edges of the timber(about 3mmfrom the edge), squash down to about 4 mm then take a plastic filler card and drag over the dum dum to slightly compress the surface down to 2-3mm.(You can also use a wallpaper roller or similar). This leaves a wide enough band but only thin and uniform in depth,essential when fitting the ally panels as you want as little amount of compression as possible when doing up the fixing screws. Too much dum dum is difficult to compress and will lead to ripply alloy panels. (tip) when laying on the alloy panels gently press evenly just inside the wood edge, use something like a rubber flatting block or 3-4" of round edged soft wood, this will squeeze the dum dum further and evenly ready to screw on, go steady with the screws watching the outer side of the wood/panel all the time, to avoid dents.
