HI all does anyone know if this item will fit in my metro? it's from a Mini and my Metro broke it's wiper switch! unfortunetly though, the owner is not willing to post to Malta! So might look around here for Minis as I can't find the right type of metro!

So the Metro lives then?

No, the Mini stalks won't fit (though anything can with enough effort and a large enough hammer), but various other 80s/ 90s BL/ Rover ones do. I'm pretty sure Land Rovers and Montegos/ Maestros had similar controls, although the Metro ones have Metro stamped in the back so there might be some minor differences.

I seem to remember mk1 Metros having slightly different stalks to mk2 cars, and the mk3 ones were also different. Not sure how interchangeable they all are either.

There are 4 scrap Montegos at the next door neighbours here - if they will fit can soon get you one of those.

Well there are 4 or 5 whole ones i can see and probably a few more in various bits or rolled over in the undergrowth - would imagine you could make a road legal runner from all the spares there!

Thanks orkney! just to give you and idea the wiper switch is on the right hand side and it's straight cause later metro seem that the end part of it is twisted forward

Dont go buying it yet - let me see if thats the same as the ones down the road - if they are i'll get one and post it - paying for stuff that you can get for free is madness :-)
Least now i know what i'm looking for, theres a very old vauxhall axle over there going to take later to see if i can make a small trailer from scrap and get some welding practice in.
Will go as soon as the gales have dropped a bit.

Ok Frank been for a look,
was actually 6 montego's !

Trouble is only 3 have the stalks left and only 2 look usable (ie in cars where the doors haven't fallen off)

heres one in an upside down car - and maybe the bad news bit - they all have the angle - other thing i noticed is that they have the variable switches on as well

Image

Just say the word if you think they will do teh job and i'll go back and get you one.

Oh and just to make everyone say wow - this is in the back of another car (been there a lot of years) - i have first dibs on it, it's in my mind to rebuild and possibly put into a mog

Full running gear is there - gearbox, diff, carbs ....
it's been like that ever since it was removed from the cortina it was in - the remains of which can still be just seen in the grass (a rebuild maybe beyond even Richard in Sweden its that bad).
And it would be a most fantastic mog running gear - probably a little overpowered but can imagine the fun it would be.

Pains me to say it Frank but the stalks on those monte's think they are even more modern than yours. If you think they will fit i will get you one. Need to take one off really and see what the plug arrangement is - fact that they have the variable switches might mean a different plug?

I would have thought that someone from the Cortina owners club would be very interested in that lot.

They can get stuffed :-) its sad really that whats left of the car couldn't wouldn't see a fraction of the money spent back if it were a commercial to sell on ground up restoration - literally you'd be building it from the vin plate.

I can just envisage a mog convertible in white with the lotus stripe and that running gear though.
