Hi All,

I have to take all the carpet out of my 2 door for some much needed restoration work and wondered what is the best way to clean them. Would they be OK in a normal washing machine??

Thanks, Jeff

What about carpet cleaner from the supermarket. You could rent one of those vax type machines.

Stitched edging likely to get damaged in a washing machine. Try one of the aftermarket carpet cleaning foams. For really stubborn marks IPA works well, but might turn that area slightly lighter in colour.

Soak it with dilute carpet cleaner for half an hour then get to it with neater carpet cleaner solution and the rubber 'fin' on a window cleaning/de-icing tool. Rub back and forth (checking the pile doesn't loosen) then turn through 90° and do the same. rinse and repeat till it looks clean. You'll be amazed how much is hiding deep in the pile. :D

If after all that abuse it doesn't loose much pile you can spin dry it in the washing machine.

I certainly wouldn't put them in washing machine Jeff! Likely to shrink - and high risk of Domestic unrest!

Hi all, Thanks for the suggestions. I bought some carpet cleaning solution and some elbow grease so will see how I get on and let you know.
