Confused, Uswitch etc....

Just curious anyone tried this money saving excercise?
House insurance is due for renewal here end of the month, went through the rigmarole of the confused.com application (being careful to only give them a hotmail address and old mobile number)
Well got a price just under less than half the current policy with no changes in values or excesses etc !
So that was worth doing.
Whilst in scrooge mode and on a bit of a role tried uswitch.com and got a quote for a saving of best part of £10 a month for changing electricity provider !
Couple of hundred a year saving for 15 mins on the web equates to a seriously worthwhile use of time

At the moment I'm seriously struggling for money (more going out than comming in

) so went the sorting out best deals route recently.
I found my gas & electricity were on a standard tariff (both with British Gas) and simply changing to a dual fuel one will save quite a bit without changing suppliers.
We already have the best deal I can get for internet and phone so no long term savings can be made there.
The house buildings and contents insurance was due and substancial difference between the old company (Zurich) and the new one (Post Office).
All the comparisons I did were using USWITCH etc web sites so like you say worth trying.

Yes thats a valid point too - when i checked on uswitch it came up with 2 cheaper tarrifs for my existing supplier which cheesed me off a bit.
One was £60 odd a year difference which would have gone for but out of feeling ripped off will change supplier and go cheaper still.
Also worth saying anyone who runs a mobile phone migth want to check out other options - I went tesco mobile PAYG, i only use it to call 3 people if neeed and the bog standard value tarrif has 3 favourits built in with 1/2 price calls and texts, cant go wrong with that!

I find that the site moneysavingexpert.com is great for helping out with these things. I have saved, in the past few days, money from both my electricity supplier (switched from British Gas to Atlantic), and managed to get two-thirds off my internet/phone deal, with the same company. I also managed to find the cheapest possible car insurance for the new car (1990 Ford Escort), using the moneysavingexpert screenscrapers - they basically get all the comparison websites togetehr for you to trawl through, so that you don't have to do a Google search for each of the sites. They also warn you that some insurance companies, like Direct Line, won't participate in things like confused.com, so they add their website addresses as well so that you can do a near 100% search on insurance companies.
The website also contains information on bank charges, savings and investments, all forms of insurance, and general shopping tips too. It also has a forum.
I need to go looking for a new gas supplier, but having an electronic token meter means I may be limited because it's a rented property and I don't want to pay to have a different gas meter fitted.

yes Furrtiv that Martin Lewis is brilliant, feel sorry for him sometimes, trying to tell people how to save money and having a hard time getting the message through. And he does get 10 out of 10 for enthusiasm - swear one days he's going to pop a blood vessel when he's having a rant.

Yes, the telly programme's a bit tacky, but worth a look for sure, the website's pretty thorough.
