Do you know how to get a v5 changed to read historic vehicle without having to mot and tax the vehcle. In a situation where the car is being restored, so not moveable?

If it is being restored, then it will be on a sorn. After restoration, insure the car, book and pass the mot. When you go to tax the car, then you can get it changed to historic.

It would be worth taking it to your local office. I was in the same situation as you and sent it off to DVLA, worse thing I could ever have done, it took ages, they lost it and wanted me to pay for a replacement of what I had sent them, which was wrong as that is why I sent it to them in the first place!

Sophie was not sorned when I got her. I just registered the change of ownership in the usual way. That done, as Steve says its no good trying to change anything until you have a MOT and insurance then, what ever you do don't post it to Swansea. I went to my local DVLA office collected my number just like the deli at Sainsburys and sat and waited for 10 mins. The man on the desk was excellent colour, engine number and tax class all changed in 5 mins.

when you went to change the tax class, did you have to have proof of its age, if so how did you get that?

Lily (new to all this!)

The v5 will show the age of the car.
