gearbox oil

i have just changed the oil in my reconditioned gearbox after the first 500 miles,when should i change it again thanks dale .

Probably not the reccomended (as in too many times) but always do it when changing the engine oil, it cant hurt to do it more often than not.

The gearbox oil does not suffer from combustion by-products and will last much longer than the engine oil. If you use a good quality oil I would expect it to last at least 15,000 miles personally. My modern cars recommend changing gearbox oil at 20,000 (Matiz) and,believe it or not
the Rover 75 manual model says change the oil at 90,000 miles!That's how slowly it will degrade.

I don't do huge mileages and tend to do it every third year, and there are many cars out there that get done very rarely so Willie's reccomendation sounds fine to me.

12,000 miles is the figure quoted on the BMC revised service chart
