Why don't Specialists tell us!

I bought a new petrol tank for the truck recently, a larger capacity one. I swapped it with the old one today.
When I came to refit the sender unit I discover that the new tank needs M4 metric screws to fasten it back in place, I can't use the old imperial screws.
Course I haven't got any M4 screws.
Why didn't the specialist tell me I needed Metric screws when I bought it.
A small frustration, but one that stopped progress this afternoon.

Interesting - I thought these high capacity tanks were no longer available. And - yes they could/should have either supplied the screws free with the tank - or sold them to you as a necessary extra.

Must have been old stock, as production has stopped for a while. The company who now owns the tooling has said that they will honor production to the Minor dealers.
Adding screws would have been a good policy. It seems the way 'nowadays 'that everything is sold individually rather than as a component. :(

As you say it could have been mentioned at the time of sale.

I often wander whether these 'specialists-come-mailorder' companies actually ever use their own products.
BM 'appear' good for this as they often put in little bits of info in their descriptions.
