Wiring Loom tape?

Post by AndrewSkinner »

I have searched the web for hours and looked through hundreds of old posts but cannot find anyone that sells the original style wiring loom tape. :(

Doesn anyone out there remember who sold it?

Not entirely sure what you mean by 'original style' tape, 'cos AFAIK the original loom wasn't taped. The best stuff for wrapping the loom is called self amalgamating tape, if you want to Google it - Maplins, for e.g. sell it

The tape you want is pvc tape non-adhesive, £1.48 a roll from Vehicle wiring products 0115 9305454, mail order, it binds to itself when slightly stretched.

thanks for all your replies!

I have lots of the self amalgamating tape at home but about 1/2 year ago someone posted a website that sold tape that had the original pattern on the back (the black and coloured stripe(s) this is the type I would like if anyone knows?

If it doesn't work, you're not hitting it with a big enough hammer.

Peetee bought some cloth sticky tape that looks very like the original stuff (but no red stiching) Made by a company called certoplast I think. Anyway thats the name inside the reel.

Yep, sure did. I got it from ebay 'self amalgamating tape' or some such. It is just plain black though.

Hello all,

traditional (although not most Minors which have a woven loom covering) is non adhesive (nor is it self amalgamating) PVC and readily available at auto electrical specialists or autojumbles etc. I can seen reason to use self amalgamating tape as the cables are not affected by water oil etc so do not need to be sealed in the loom. Not that the loom tape lets much in anyway as long as it is wrapped well.
Standard insulation tape just does not wrap easily or neatly.

If you follow the link below there are several options for safeguarding wiring. They also do stripey coloured wiring to match existing as well which ESM/Bull Motif etc don't do.
