whilst informing my work mates what my replacement for my Mini was to be an telling them her name I was met with quizical looks and amusement, "Name why has the car got a name?" I realised then that I was showing my age :D I was always brought up with cars that had names, they were part of the family! So I enquired as to the names of any one elses car...blank looks all around :( then I pointed out that if they did not have names then the cars did not have character, how could they drool over something and spout everlasting love for their 4 wheels when they did not even give it a name!!! (after they carted me off in a straight jacket and I calmed down I thought about the names we all have. What if any was the most popular? My Mini was called the Minx and I drew a pic of Minnie the Minx and had a dinner plate sized decal made up for the bonnet, My new car a 1969 Traveller is called Miss Climpson, a character from Dorothy.L. Sayers books, so what are the most common names and why? I asked when I got mine if it had a name and if so I did not want to know what it was, as I was going to give her a new one. So what is the most popular name?

Mines called 'wilbur' because my wife thought the 'M' hubcaps looked like 'Ws' when upside down.
(hey, who am I to question a womans mind? )

My last car was called 'the sh***er' because of its condition.

Everyone here knows mine is called 'Ector, that's because of the number plate - ECT 105D (well, ECTO 1 was already taken!). Previous Minors have been called names relating to the numberplates too - Wimpy, for WMP 931K, Kasper, for KAS 811, and the only car that didn't have a name was the Pug.
