fuel filler seal

Post by Pascal »

Hi,

Should there be a seal around the fuel tank filler tube where it goes through the bodywork? (on a saloon) Mine seems to be missing.

If yours is there how it should be can you post a picture?

If it's not there - your boot floor must be running with water!

Mine has a complex blend of old silicon, dodgy paint and dust.

Another job for the ever increasing list... :D
What would Macgyver do..?

I've now bought a new seal but to my surprise there is no groove around it. I would have expected a groove where the seal meets the boot bodywork to keep the seal in place.

How is that supposed to work? Do you just slide the seal around the tube and force it through the hole in the bodywork, hoping it will stay there?

Guess so! If you want to make sure - a small bead of sealer on the seal will make it completely watertight and hold it in place. But not so much it comes out the sides!
