Service and oil change on saturday. I always flush my SAAB with oil flush before every change and that's been good for 180K miles so far, same engine, changes every 12K miles, fully synthetic etc. etc.

so, should I flush maggie? the oils a bit black, and it's been 12K since the last one (should I be doing it every 6 )

I use halfrauds green classic oil and decent filters, what're the thoughts on flushing, and has anyone done it regularly with no (or some) good (or bad) effects?

1098 standard gold seal with 50-60K (ish) on the clock (because I'm not sure when the PO fitted the engine.

You should be changing the oil every 3000 miles or 6 months... I wouldnt use flush, if youre really worried change the oil again in 250 odd miles

I'd use a better oil too, though I gather that the Halfords stuff now carries a rating (low) of SE CC

No flush necessary - but do take the car for a good hard run just before changing the oil - and jack it up in such a way that the drain plug is at the lowest point -and let it drain fully. It's not a fancy engine - and doesn't need fancy oil! Personally I use Asda or Morrison 20W50 and it's been fine for many years.

Gosh, really? The point was that the Halfords stuff WAS unrated, which, for me at least, rang alarm bells.

I used a flush once it affected the cork gaskets in some way that caused them to leak oil I'll never use one again

I always flush - its not nice for the next person otherwise.

As Matt has said just change the oil again after a short mileage just use some of the Asda oil before replacing with a better one preferably with a SJ rating or better.

3000 miles, crikey, that's about every 3-4 months, and I didn't realise the green oil was so cack.

OK, so a SJ rated oil it is then, and defo change this weekend.

And I pronise to treat her with more care!

Don't panic with your mileage changing it twice a year should be fine in future.
