Headlining Alternative

Hi Folks,

My headlining is dreadful and held together with tape etc. I aslo know it's the sort of job I will be useless at - I have no patience and others' comments throughout the forum have warned what a fiddly job it can be.

On these grounds I also suspect it will be very expensive to have done by a specialist.

Has anyone tried any alternatives?

I've seen a couple of resto projects where they have used a 3 piece semi-rigid interior (a large central strip supported by two side strips). Does anyone know if you can buy these or were they hand made? I've searched suppliers but no luck. Or does anyone have a pattern?

Trying to stick to budget of about £100-£150.

Hi,

I was looking for an alternative to the standard headlining - I just know I won't be able to fit this type myself! I was intrigued by some of the people on this board who had made roof linings and was wondering where they got the pattern or could buy them.

e.g.

This is the only post I can find at present but I've seen other users on this forum with linings like this (I think one was in Oz).

Oh, my bad. I thought Kim had made a copy of what was already there - the earlier photo looks like an older inside-roof than the one he made himself in later photo.

I agree you probably can't buy these, but was wondering if anyone had a pattern as they all look to be a similar sort of shape.

Nuffink - I just don't always use it, as other people's irritate the hell out of me, and I imagine mine has much the same effect

That make sense - never had a split either - in which case they wouldn't fit my '59 anyway.

One day I'll have to work up the courage to try to do it properly then...

If you don't care about originality, you could remove the old headlining, stick sound-deadening felt to the roof then vinylcloth to that. Gives a nice concave roof and plently of headroom BUT make sure you use a decent adhesive or the whole lot will come down in hot weather...
