Looking at the burlen website there are 2 sorts of dashpot springs one for "normal" suction chambers and one for "ball bearing" suction chambers.
What will a HIF44 have?
thanks

Not seen that before Matt - certainly small diameter springs for HS carbs - and larger diameter for HIF. Are ALL HIF 'ball bearing' ?

I seem to recall you can fit a HIF (ball bearing) spring in an HS, but not the other way round as the damper chamber is too wide.
I'm trying to remember if the HIF4 (yes, I now know they do exist as I have a pair) have the wide or narrow springs just to throw a spanner in the works..
The HIF springs are shorter at free length IIRC too.

Yes - there are HIF 4 and HIF 6 carbs about -maybe even HIF 8 ?? Useful information about the springs!

As an aside to this, little while back when having a multidude of problems with scabby, one of the things that came up was the spring in the carb wasnt doing its job properly. The dashpot was moving fine but the cylinder wasnt going down fully to the pin. (so couldnt even set the mix on idle)
My heath robinson temporary solution was to stretch it ! (much against the advice given which i would have heeded if i could have gotten a spare next day)
Anyway call it a fluke but its been trouble free since
Know i shouldnt have said that now so better get a new spring ASAP
