Replacement Contact Breakers

The types of contact breakers you can buy these days are rubbish. They go out of adjustment in a month, and wear exceedingly fast.

They just arent as nice quality as the ones you used to be able to get. Older breakers tended to have hard plastic heel for bearing on the distributor cam, but newer ones all seem to use a soft rubbery plastic which simply wears away ultra fast.

Whenever possible, I try to get as much use out of old style contact breakers as possible.

What are your experiences with contact breakers?

The ones from the ESM service kit seem to be fine. Put some grease on the cam and try replacing the adjustment screw.

You can still buy genuine Lucas points for the Moggy, even Halfords stock them. I use TAC ignition module, and the points last 20,000+ miles.

I have only been able to buy the red plastic based sets for years and have had no problems so far but I do lubricate the operating cams with grease.

Just buy old stock at classic autoshows!
