B pillar cracks and rust

Like many high mileage shells my poor old 1960 moggy has cracks in the B pillars (just in front of the rear side windows) from where previous owners have slammed the doors too often (I hate that). I have sorted these out temporarily (till the next resto at least) by drilling holes at the end of each to stop them getting worse. Oddly, it also has developed a tiny rust hole on the B pillar about level with the door handle. I have never seen one go here my whole life! Any suggestions as to what could cause such a hole?

My guess is either moisture getting in from the B pillar cracks, or a lack of rustproofing in the B pillar itself.

Maybe a paint chip at one time that has rusted through.

funnily enough I have a spot of rusted through rust hole on exactly the same place on the Traveller and some cracks on the convertible! So maybe its not that rare. Was going to cut the rust out then weld a new piece in (coin sized), then fill the b pillar with waxoyl to protect.

That's what I have to do, methinks. Problem is, I'd have to take the door cards and windows out to avoid setting anything on fire!

It should be ok till the next rebuild. I have my eye on it. If it gets worse I'll bite the bullet and sort it out.

have the same problem? so is there likely to be bad rust underneath? and can it be sorted by simply filling it or is filler to brittle?
