realised looking at various pictures that I dont have one
are they standard? and can you get them or better still make one ?
will be losing the space behind the wheel soon as putting some guages in and a parcel shelf could be a handy thing !

On my project 4-door, and enterprising owner made a new one out of thin hardboard. Much more durable than the crappy black cardboard original.

If you look on a particular website for a south-eastern Minor parts company you will find a series of very useful photos of the different shelves that were fitted. Just type 'parcel' into the parts search. These can provide a rough template. For some bizzare reason the early 1000 cars had a shorter shelf. This might have something to do with the heater design but I'm not as flexible as I was so I'm a bit reluctant to bend double to investigate. (fitting the scuttle panels was hard enough

Well i seem to remember having a car (cant remember what but wasnt a mog) which had a similar shelf - only remember it from constantly bashing my shins on the darned thing.
Think if i do make one will surround the front edge with some of that foam pipe insulation stuff.
Havent heard the word Fablon for years

I made mine out of ply using the original as a template.
What you need is someone who can take theirs out and post you dimensions.
The only worry I have with using ply or board is that it wont collapse in an accident and would smack your legs. I've addressed this by not crashing.
You'll also need the padded metal bar, a shelf wont fit without one.

Yes i'd wondered about the implications of having that in front of your shins if there was an accident.
Reckon suspended 'leatherette' pvc stuff might be the way to go, the front could be a piece of 15mm copper plumbing pipe - filled with expanding foam for a bit of extra strength, pipe insulation and thread a stitched loop in the pvc over that.
Just need to work out how to attach it to the bulkhead then, few yacht canopy clips might do that.

I think if the crash was that big that the bulkhead and parcel shelf were moved into the passenger compartment you'd have more to worry about than parcel shelf in the knees- like steering column through the chest!
If its thin hardboard it will be safer than metal steering column!

ORKNEY, if you are going to fit a shelf from scratch i.e. there is no bar there at all then, if you will be trying to obtain a second hand bar be careful as the lengths varied with the different designs. A kit is available from Newton Commercial for recovering the bar.

the bar is just 1 inch angle with a bracket on each end to connect to the screws on the side panels

...so the parcel shelf material into the leg thing is a a bit of a non-worry, given that the steel angle will have carved a nice path through them
