I am wondering if the wiper motor from an Austin 1100 or Mini would be suitable for a Minor, they are all self parking and pysically the same, but not sure if the to and fro movement would vary between different motors. Can anyone enlighten me please?

There was a thread a while ago about this, but search failed to find it. From memory the mountings are different, and sweep area is greater.

Some have different drive wheel inside - so giving different stroke to the rack, and therefore different sweep to the blades - but from distant memory I think we used to swap them about.

Thanks for that, the mountings look the same, but you are likely right about the sweep, although I've been thinking that most wipers travel a semi-circle, or perhaps it's not that simple.

More like 110/120 degrees -and of course sometimes the wheelboxes have different number of teeth too. I have vague feeling the sweep angle may be somehow marked on the wiper motor casing ? But if all else fails - you can maybe use parts from the Mini etc motor to rebuild the Minor wiper motor.

Yes on reflection that is more like it. All your points make sense, I'll check the casing for any info. I have a new 1100 unit, hence the interest.

Reading another post reminded me that I also have not given an update on my question. I doesn't amount to much though as I have found the original motor to be ok, and with a coat of crackle finish it looks neat. Was tempted to dismantle both units to compare, but thought 'leave well alone'.

Exactly - excellent motto! Skool mottos etc are usually in Latin - I agree -it is bizarre.
